Terms of service
Last updated: November 5, 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and Taproot Systems, Inc. (“we”), P.O. Box 1302, Ridgefield, WA 98642, United States. They cover the Ohmeris website at ohmeris.com, the Ohmeris app, and Benchmate, the AI assistant in the app (together, the “service”). The privacy notice and the account limits page also apply.
1. Agreeing to these terms
When you create a personal account, you must accept these terms at signup. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.
- You must be at least 16 to create a personal account. To buy a plan you must also be old enough to make a binding contract where you live, or have a parent or guardian agree to these terms and pay for you.
- Classroom seats are set up by a teacher. See section 15 for how they work.
- If you use the service for a school, company or other organization, you confirm that you may accept these terms for it, and “you” includes that organization.
- You may not use the service if the law bars you from doing so.
On the website, you may read, link to and share pages for any lawful purpose. Please do not sign up other people for the waitlist without their permission.
2. Your account and security
- Give accurate details and keep your email address up to date. We use it for messages about your account and the service.
- Keep your password and API tokens private. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
- An API token, or a tool you connect with one, acts as you. Anything it does counts as your use of the service.
- If you think someone else has used your account, tell us at hello@ohmeris.com.
3. Paid accounts: one person per account
Each paid Ohmeris account is for one named person, who is responsible for what happens under it. Please do not share your sign-in, or sell or lend access to your account.
- To work with other people, use collaborators on a project, where each person has their own account, or classroom seats for a class.
- We apply a small set of usage limits to every account, such as how many sessions can be signed in at once. They are listed on the account limits page, which we may update with notice. We email account holders before a new limit applies.
- Ordinary use on your own devices is fine. The limits are not meant to catch it.
If we think an account is being shared, enforcement is graduated. We first send a notice that says what we saw and how to fix it, and give you time to respond. If the pattern continues, we may limit the account, for example by ending extra sessions, and only after that suspend it. Before closing an account, we tell you why unless fraud, abuse or legal reasons require a different approach. If we end an account for sharing, we will tell you how to export your projects.
If you think we got it wrong, write to hello@ohmeris.com with the subject “Account dispute”. A person at Taproot Systems, Inc. will review it and reply. The privacy notice explains what data we use for this and how to object.
4. Plans and what each includes
Ohmeris offers three paid monthly plans. The current prices and standard limits are below. Prices are in US dollars.
- Basic, $15 a month: 25 Benchmate requests a month, up to 6 a day. Schematic editor with the real-part picker; Analog SPICE simulation: transient, AC (Bode), DC sweep, operating point; PCB layout, 2 or 4 layers, with DRC; Exports: KiCad PCB, Gerber, ODB++, pick-and-place, open JSON; Starter Bench: 2-channel oscilloscope and multimeter, up to 2 instruments open; Run your own compiled .hex (or .uf2 for the Pico) on supported AVR, PIC16 and RP2040 parts; Private projects.
- Pro, $29 a month: 60 Benchmate requests a month, up to 15 a day. Everything in Basic; Full bench: 4-channel oscilloscope, logic analyser with I2C/SPI/UART decoders, signal generator and more, no instrument limit; In-browser code editor: write and build firmware for AVR, PIC16 and a supported RP2040 path; Benchmate writes and fixes microcontroller firmware; Digital logic simulation; Live parts you can adjust while it runs: sensors, buttons, keypad, joystick.
- Premier, $69 a month: 160 Benchmate requests a month, up to 35 a day. Everything in Pro; Real serial port: connect the bench terminal to a real Arduino or USB-serial adapter (Chrome or Edge on desktop); The most Benchmate requests. Not available yet: Desktop bridge app for USB, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi devices; ESP32 with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
Anything listed as “not available yet” or “coming” is planned. It is not part of what you buy today, and we do not promise a date for it. Features work only with the parts, devices, models and browsers the app says it supports.
Your monthly Benchmate requests renew on your billing date, and unused ones do not carry over. The daily limit resets at midnight UTC. The pricing page explains what counts as a request.
5. The 7-day trial
- The trial lasts 7 days and needs no card. Nothing is charged when it ends, and it does not turn into a subscription by itself.
- Each account can have one trial.
- During the trial your own projects run at the Basic level, and the starter labs open as a Pro preview. Benchmate allows up to 6 requests a day and 20 in total.
- Paid exports and top-ups start with a paid plan. You can still download your own project file (.ohmeris.json).
- You can cancel the trial in your account settings. It ends straight away and cannot be restarted.
- If you buy a plan during the trial, requests you used in the trial count toward your first month's allowance.
When the trial ends without a plan, your account becomes view-only.
6. Subscriptions, renewal and cancellation
A plan is a monthly subscription. It starts once your first payment has gone through. It then renews automatically every month, and we charge your payment method through Stripe on your billing date, until you cancel. By subscribing, you authorize these recurring charges at the price then in effect.
To cancel, choose Cancel renewal in your account settings. No email or call is needed. To avoid the next charge, cancel before your billing date. Canceling stops the renewal, and your paid access continues to the end of the period you paid for. You can turn renewal back on in the billing portal before that period ends.
When a plan or trial ends, your account becomes view-only. You can open your projects and download each project file (.ohmeris.json). Editing, paid exports and Benchmate requests are unavailable. Your projects stay in your account, and paying for a plan restores editing.
7. Price changes
We may change our prices. We will email you at least 30 days before a price increase applies to your subscription. It will take effect at a renewal after that notice. If you do not want to pay the new price, cancel before that renewal. A price change does not affect a period you have already paid for or top-ups you have already bought.
8. Taxes
Prices do not include taxes. Stripe works out any tax that applies from your billing address and adds it at checkout, and you can see the total before you pay. If we are not required to collect a tax that applies to your purchase, paying it is your responsibility.
9. Top-ups
- A top-up pack is a one-time purchase: 25 Benchmate requests for $10, plus any tax. Top-ups are sold when offered in the app.
- They are for accounts on a paid plan. They are not available during a trial, on classroom seats, or while your latest payment has not gone through.
- Top-up requests never expire. They are used only after your monthly allowance, and the daily limit still applies.
- If your plan ends, unused top-up requests stay on your account, but you cannot use them until you are on a paid plan again.
- They are removed if you delete your account. They have no cash value and cannot be transferred.
10. Changing plans
You can change plans in the billing portal, which Stripe runs for us. It shows the prorated difference for the rest of the billing period before you confirm, and any amount due is charged immediately. A plan change does not restart your monthly allowance: requests you have already used in the period stay counted. If you move to a lower plan, features above that plan stop working for you, and your projects stay in your account.
11. Failed payments
If a renewal payment fails, Stripe may try again, and you can update your payment method in the billing portal. You keep your paid plan for up to seven days from when your subscription is marked past due. During that time no new monthly allowance starts, and you cannot buy top-ups. If the payment still has not gone through, your account becomes view-only until it does. We may end a subscription that stays unpaid.
12. Refunds
We do not give refunds or credits for part of a month, unused Benchmate requests or unused top-ups, except where the law requires it or at our discretion. If you think we charged you by mistake, write to hello@ohmeris.com and a person will look at it.
If we do give a refund, it goes back through Stripe, and this is what happens to your account:
- Plan, full refund of the current period: once we process that refund for your current subscription, your account becomes view-only. Active workers stop when they next check their access.
- Plan, partial refund: your plan stays as it is.
- Top-up: a full refund removes that pack's requests, and a partial refund removes them in proportion, rounded in your favor. Requests you have already used are not taken back.
Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under consumer protection law that cannot be waived by contract, including any right to cancel or to get a refund where you live.
Chargebacks. If you dispute a payment through your payment provider, we suspend paid access while the chargeback is open. If you have a subscription, we leave it active and billing continues on its normal schedule while the chargeback is open. Your account becomes view-only, and we do not delete your projects or remove unused top-up requests because of the dispute. If the dispute is decided in our favor, paid access returns if your plan is still active and no other chargeback restricts access. If it is decided in your favor, the account stays view-only and we cancel the subscription to stop renewals.
13. Acceptable use
Please do not:
- break the law, or use the service to harm people or to design something meant to hurt them;
- try to break, overload or get around the security of the service, or test it for weaknesses without our written permission;
- get around plan limits, usage limits or feature gates, or create extra accounts to get more trials;
- upload malware, or firmware or other files meant to damage devices or systems;
- upload content you have no right to use, or post content that is unlawful, abusive or an invasion of someone's privacy;
- resell the service, or use it or Benchmate's output to build a competing service or train an AI model;
- copy, decompile or reverse engineer the service, except where the law allows it;
- scrape the service, or use automation other than the API tokens and tools we provide.
14. Your content
You own your content. That means your projects, schematics, boards, firmware, uploaded files, prompts and comments. We claim no ownership of it. You confirm that you have the right to use and upload it.
Our licence. You give us a limited licence to host, store, copy, process, display and send your content, only as needed to run the service for you, keep it secure, support you and meet legal duties. That includes sending it to the service providers in section 18. The licence ends when you delete the content, except for copies in backups until they age out, content that others hold under the public sharing terms below, and anything the law requires us to keep.
Public projects. Projects are private until you turn on the public link. While it is on, anyone with the link can view the project and run it on a read-only bench, it can be embedded in other websites, and signed-in users can copy it into a private project of their own, including the firmware files its public page uses. You give those people, and us, permission to do this. Turning the link off stops new copies, but copies already made remain.
Keep your own copies. You can export your work on a paid plan and download each project file. Please keep copies of anything important. We do not promise that content can be recovered.
Feedback. If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them without owing you anything. If you think something on the service infringes your rights, write to hello@ohmeris.com.
15. Collaborators and classrooms
Collaborators. A project owner can open shared editing and give others a private join code. Each collaborator needs their own account. The owner controls the project: if the owner's account becomes view-only or is deleted, collaborators are affected too. By joining, you allow your edits and comments to stay in the owner's project.
Classrooms. A teacher can create a class, publish assignments, and invite students, who join with their own account or with a classroom seat.
- A classroom seat is an account with no email address. It signs in with a class code and a seat code, and is identified by the display name the teacher chooses. It can work only on that class's assignments. It cannot start a trial, buy anything, publish or share work, join other projects, or use Benchmate.
- A seat has no plan of its own: what it can do follows the teacher's plan and the class. How many seats a teacher can have depends on their plan, as shown in the app, and may change.
- Students with their own account need a trial or a paid plan of their own to work on assignments.
- Teachers can see the work students submit and its results. Classmates cannot.
- If you are a teacher, you are responsible for your class. Get any permission your school, students, parents or the law require, keep seat codes safe, and do not put personal details in display names beyond what is needed to tell students apart.
- Automatic grading runs only the checks the teacher sets, within the limits of the models used, and it can be wrong. It is a teaching aid. It is not a secure examination system.
- If a teacher deletes their account, their classes and seats are deleted, along with the seat accounts' work.
16. Benchmate and AI output
Benchmate uses AI, and its output may be wrong. It can give a wrong pin, value, part or explanation, leave things out, sound sure when it should not, or suggest a circuit that does not work or is not safe. Its checks cover only part of a design and do not prove that a circuit works. Benchmate is not an engineer. Review everything it produces before you rely on it. You decide what goes into your project, and you are responsible for what you use.
We don't use your private projects to train AI models. To answer you, we send your request and the parts of your project, datasheet or firmware it needs to our AI provider, Anthropic. See Anthropic's Commercial Terms. Do not include anything you are not allowed to share. We claim no ownership of the output you receive, but similar output may be given to other people, and it may not be protected by copyright.
Benchmate requests have limits: the monthly and daily numbers for your plan, and the number that can run at once, which is on the account limits page. When you reach a limit, Benchmate stops until the limit resets or, for the monthly allowance, until you add a top-up. We may change the AI models we use.
17. Simulation, exports and safety
Results are not measurements. Simulations, the virtual bench, firmware emulation, design and layout checks, sample projects and blog build logs all come from software and models. They can be wrong or incomplete, and they do not match every real part, board or operating condition.
Exports are unverified. We have not built and tested a board from our exports ourselves. Check Gerber, drill, pick-and-place, BOM and other files in your manufacturer's viewer before you order. Part data, prices and stock can be out of date, and some are sample data. Nothing from the service certifies that a product meets any safety, regulatory or industry standard. If you make or sell a product, meeting those standards is your responsibility.
You must check a design yourself before you build, power or sell it. Independently check it against datasheets, calculations and real measurements.
Electricity can kill you, injure you and start fires. Take special care with mains voltage, high voltages, and anything that stores or delivers a lot of energy, such as large capacitors, lithium batteries, high-current supplies, motors and heaters. Do not build, connect or test these circuits unless you are qualified to do it safely, and have a qualified person review them. Use proper isolation, fusing, grounding, enclosures and protective equipment. Do not rely on the service for anything where a failure could hurt someone, including medical, vehicle, aircraft or safety equipment.
The real serial port feature talks to real hardware. You are responsible for what you connect and what it does.
18. Third parties
The service relies on other companies, and we may change them. The ones you are most likely to notice are:
- Stripe takes payments, runs checkout and the billing portal, and works out tax. Your card details go to Stripe, not to us.
- Anthropic provides the AI models behind Benchmate.
- Resend sends account emails, and Kit runs the waitlist and our product emails.
- Vercel hosts the website. Other providers host the app and its data, and monitor it for errors.
- Mouser and Digi-Key supply part prices and stock where these are available.
Board manufacturers, part sellers and any quote service you connect with your own key are separate from us. If you order from them, your contract is with them. Part libraries and other third-party material in the service keep their own licences.
The website links to other sites, for example the public sources behind our comparisons. We do not control those sites or these companies, and we are not responsible for their content, services or privacy practices.
19. Privacy
How we handle your data is described in the privacy notice.
20. Availability and changes to the service
We work to keep the service running, but we do not promise that it will always be available, on time or free of errors, and we offer no uptime commitment. It may be down for maintenance or for reasons outside our control. We keep improving the service, so we may add, change or remove features. If we remove a main feature of your plan, we will tell you first where reasonably possible. If we ever close the service, we will give you notice and time to export your work.
We try to keep the website accurate and to say where a feature is limited or not yet available. Plans, prices and features described here can change before and after the app opens, and joining the waitlist does not reserve a price or guarantee access. Comparisons with other tools use dated public sources and may go out of date.
21. Suspension, closing your account and your data
Suspension and closure by us. We may limit, suspend or close an account for a serious or repeated breach of these terms, for non-payment, to protect the service or other people, or where the law requires it. For account sharing we follow the steps in section 3. Before closing an account, we tell you why unless fraud, abuse or legal reasons require a different approach. You can contest the decision at hello@ohmeris.com. If we close your account, we will tell you how to export your projects unless the law prevents it.
When a plan ends. Your account becomes view-only and your projects stay. If we ever set a time limit on keeping accounts without a plan, we will email you first.
Deleting your account. You can delete your account yourself in your account settings. This is permanent and cannot be undone, so download anything you want to keep first.
- We cancel your subscription immediately, so you are not billed for it again, and the rest of the period is not pro-rated or refunded. If a checkout you started finishes after your account is deleted, write to hello@ohmeris.com and we will cancel that subscription.
- We delete your projects, including public and shared ones, your libraries, your chat history, classes you own, and any unused Benchmate requests and top-ups.
- We keep a record that the deletion happened: a one-way hash of your email address, your plan, whether you had a subscription, and the IP address of the request. We clear the IP address after 90 days. If an account with the same email address is deleted again later, we keep the first record unchanged, and the later deletion appears only in our server logs, as the account's internal ID, the hash, your plan and whether you had a subscription, for as long as those logs are kept. We and Stripe also keep payment records we need for tax, accounting and legal reasons.
- Copies in backups last until the backups age out. Copies other people made of your public projects are theirs and remain.
Sections 12, 14 and 21 to 26 continue after your account ends, along with anything else that by its nature should.
22. Intellectual property
The service, including its software, website text, images and videos, and the Ohmeris name and logo, belong to Taproot Systems, Inc. or its licensors. While you follow these terms, we give you a limited, personal, non-transferable right to use the service. On the website, you may quote short passages with a link back; please ask us before reusing anything else. Other product names on the website belong to their owners and are used only to identify those products.
23. Disclaimers
The service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement and accuracy. Do not rely on anything in the service as engineering, safety or professional advice. Some places do not allow these exclusions, so they apply only as far as the law allows.
24. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive loss, or for lost profits, lost data, failed boards, damaged equipment or the cost of parts, however caused. In any case, our total liability to you is limited to US $100 or the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, whichever is greater.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law does not allow us to limit.
25. Indemnity
To the extent the law allows, you agree to cover our reasonable losses and costs if someone else makes a claim against us because of your content, your breach of these terms, or anything you build, sell or supply using the service. We will tell you about the claim and let you help respond to it.
26. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, United States, and disputes will be handled by the state and federal courts located in Clark County, Washington, unless the law where you live requires otherwise.
27. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the latest version. We will email account holders at least 30 days before a material change takes effect. If you keep using the service after that, the new terms apply. If you do not agree, cancel your plan before they take effect and stop using the service.
28. General
These terms, with the pages they link to, are the whole agreement between us about the service. If part of them cannot be enforced, the rest still applies. If we do not enforce a term straight away, we can still enforce it later. You may not transfer these terms without our consent; we may transfer them if the business or the service is sold or reorganized. We may send you notices by email or in the app.
